Anniversary!

A few days ago, September 5th came and went. Then yesterday, I remembered that Septemeber 5th was our 8 year anniversary!! (Our anniversary of being a couple, not being married.) I couldn't believe Bryan and I forgot! At the end of August, we talked about how it was approaching, yet when the day actually arrived, nothin'! It wasn't until yesterday afternoon that I realized it had just passed us by!! I guess with laundry, ICU shifts, math homework, cooking, vacuuming, hosting guests, and board games, our anniversary just snuck by. Next Friday, we're going to go out to celebrate 8 wonderful years of being together, and we can't wait! Hopefully when next Friday arrives though, we'll remember it's date night!  Flashbacks of us dating:

This was taken at the end of our senior year at one of our best friend's house.

Bryan and me (at another best friend's house!) before leaving for prom.

After 8 years, we're still best friends! I love you, Bryan!

Math=Recess

Yesterday, Sarah said that they didn't go outside for recess since it was an orange alert ozone day. Instead, they stayed inside and did math problems. Sarah was so excited and told me that "doing math was my recess!" I love it!

Mommy is a Baby!

Last night, we had a big, loud storm here. It was so nice to have the rain, but unfortunately Bryan was on call at the hospital last night, so it seemed to make the thunder and lightning that much louder. Almost every time we have had a wake-you-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night storm over the past year, Bryan has been on out of town rotations. So, shortly after I would awaken from the storms, I would hear Sarah's feet scampering down the hall to our bedroom. I thought, (and hoped!), that last night would be no different. I waited and waited for Sarah to come running into our bedroom with her arms full of stuffed animals. I even went to check on her twice only to see that she was sleeping soundly through all of the thunder and lightning. Although sleeping in the same bed with Sarah is not ideal, (she kicks as if she's dreaming about Karate!), I do like snuggling up with her during a storm when Bryan's not home. I guess, I need to follow Sarah's lead though, and not be so much of a baby.

Dance Class!

Bryan and I signed Sarah up for dance classes at The Little Gym, and today was her first day! When I picked her up from school, she said, "Mommy, I am ecstatic about my dance class! That's even more excited than excited!"
Although she was "ecstatic" she was also a little nervous once we arrived. Now, she's gettin' ready!
Today they worked on a lot of basics and focused on coordination and learning the individual moves. Sarah just smiled the whole time! And if she couldn't do something, she just kept trying with her teacher's help until she mastered it! I was so proud of her!

First Day of School!

Today was Sarah's first day of first grade!
Bryan was on call last night, but he called Sarah from the hospital this morning to wish her lots of luck on her first day! We cannot believe how big she's getting! And I'm not going to lie, when I pulled out of the school parking lot this morning after dropping her off, I teared up!
She could not wait to get to school this morning!
After school, I took her to Barnes and Noble to hear all about her day over a cookie and a glass of iced tea at the Starbucks! It was so nice being able to just listen to her. I also bought her a new Fancy Nancy book as a "first day gift"!

The highlights of her day: reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, learning about her teacher, her new friend Sara F., music class, the lunch I packed for her, (which included one of my world famous heart-shaped sandwiches!), and taking a tour of the school.
The worst part of her day: playing on the "little" playground for recess, instead of the "big" playground! (Man, it's tough being a first grader!)

For homework, Sarah had to pick 5 items to put into this lunch bag that will tell the class all about her tomorrow. She chose her favorite book, Hug, a little gold spoon that she and I use when we're drinking hot tea, a bouncy ball that she loves to play with, a seashell from one of our family trips to the beach, and a pink marker--because she loves to draw and she loves the color pink! I was very proud of how much thought she put into her first assignment!
I still can't get over the fact that Sarah Beara is in the first grade!

Museum of Science and History

Today, Bryan was off, so we headed out to the Museum of Science and History! Sarah was so excited when we told her that's where we were going this morning!!
Sarah loves dinosaurs, so she thought seeing this Stegosaurus put together by fossils was so cool! (After taking this picture I was told that we couldn't use flash inside! Oops! Maybe if I had known beforehand, her face wouldn't have been so bright! Haha!) Sarah and Daddy using their big muscles to hoist her up in the kids' section of the museum! Now they're working together to lift a bowling ball with the pulley system. I think Bryan loved this kids' area as much as Sarah did! It was so cute watching them play together! Looking out at the river.
I told Bryan I looked silly in this picture, and he replied, "You look silly in all pictures." Lovely, huh?!
Playing on a colorful organ with flip flops! After I took this picture, the three of us played "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "I'm a Little Teapot." We were pretty good!
Sarah loved this section of the museum about Indians. She liked discovering how they lived and what tools they made and used back then.
After the museum, we stopped for some yummy smoothies at Jamba Juice! Now, it's off to Meet the Teacher. I can't believe we're taking Sarah to her new first grade classroom!!

Sarah on Pizza

"Mommy, the pizza slices at Costco are so big! They're bigger than my brain! And my brain is pretty big, ya know." Sarah is too much sometimes!

Time for Tea!

For lunch, Sarah and I went to a new tea room. It was lovely! The tea was yummy and the time spent soaking my little princess in was even better!
Just the two of us! They had various hats that you could wear while having tea, and Sarah fell in love with this one! Sarah also just adored that they had actual sugar cubes! She put 3 into her first cup of tea!!
Sipping her tea. I thought this one was too cute!
Gently dabbing the corners of her mouth with her pink napkin. What a ham!

Adorable!

This morning, while Sarah and I were eating breakfast, (Papa Bear's at work today, or he would have been at the table too!), I told Sarah that she was adorable. She said, "It's a gift...from God." It was so sweet, because I was waiting for Sarah to be her not-always-so-humble-self, but then when she followed it up with God, I melted! I love that she knows and loves God. The God who made her!

Crayons Just for Daddy

Bryan and I were talking about school supplies the other day, and he mentioned that he always wanted a box of 64 count crayons, but never got one. It made me so sad for him. So, when Sarah and I were out, we bought him a shiny new box!
There she is, in all her glory!

When Bryan got home from work yesterday, we gave him the new box! Then he and Sarah sat down to color together before dinner.

A Nice Lunch

Today, Bryan was off, so we all went out to lunch. It was the first time we've been out to eat since we moved to San Antonio. We had such a nice time! We always love spending time together!
These two are too cute for words. These two are not too shabby either! Simply adorable!

Daddy and Sarah

My two favorite people.

Tea Party!

Yesterday, Bryan's mom and Nana came to town for a couple of days. Sarah and I decided to have a tea party for them. Well, actually, since it's Texas and over a 100 degrees, we made an executive decision to skip the hot tea and make homemade lemonade instead! We also enjoyed mini sandwiches, blueberry scones with honey butter and strawberry jam that Sarah and I made, lemon bars, and fruit salad. It was yummy. But more than that, it was really nice to spend time with them!

Slumber Party!

This month, Bryan is working in the ICU. His schedule consists of a shift from 7 AM to 5 PM, a call shift from 7 AM to 1 PM the following day, then the next 36 (ish) hours off. Last night, was his first night on call, so Sarah and I decided to have a slumber party!
We made homemade pizza--one of our favorite things to do! While we ate it, we watched "Bolt!" Then, it was time for ice cream sundaes! Before bed, we decided to be truly girly and put on face masks. We mashed up one banana and mixed in a tablespoon of honey, then put it all over our faces! Sarah liked the cucumbers on her eyes, and once we washed the fruit off of our faces, they were really soft!
We stayed up late talking before Sarah drifted off to sleep...around 9:15. Although we missed Bryan like crazy, it was nice having a sleepover, just us girls!
Now, we're off to the library to get some new books, then to the store to pick up ingredients to make rice krispie treats for daddy! We can't wait until he gets home today!!

Swimming Fun!

Yesterday afternoon, Sarah and I went swimming with Tom and Sally at their neighborhood pool. Of course, Sarah had the best time!
Sarah and Sally Our little fish! Coming up for air while swimming to Mr. Tom!
Is she trying to get away from the camera?!
We had so much fun!
