Cards

I love cards. And I really love giving cards for no reason at all, just to let someone know I'm thinking of them. (Bryan has two boxes completely full of cards I've bought and made him over the course of our relationship!) So last night after reading the Bible to Sarah and turning off her light, I decided to make a little card for both of them. Hopefully, it will bring a smile to their faces!

Sarah's card will be tucked into her lunch box today next to her sandwich and grapes. And Bryan's card will be waiting on his desk when he gets home this morning...next to his Heisman figure that Sarah painted for him a couple of years ago!

Date Day!

Bryan was off today, so we had a date day! It was wonderful! Usually, our dates consist of talking, TV, and Coke floats after we've tucked Sarah in, but today we had the opportunity to go out. We went to Panera Bread--our favorite breakfast spot!--and talked over bagels and coffee. Then, once we got home, we watched our Netflix movie. What a great date day!

All Curled Up!

This morning, we had two loud storms--one before 3:00 AM and the other before 6:30 AM. Due to that, and the fact that Bryan had to go in to the hospital today, all three of us were up early. After Sarah and I kissed Daddy goodbye, we played Pick-Up-Sticks and Monopoly Jr. Then we put in a movie while we ate breakfast.

After putting a load of laundry into the dryer, this is how I found Sarah curled up watching the end of the movie. Adorable!

Mandarin Oranges

Last night as one of the sides for dinner, I made a simple fruit salad. One of the fruits I added, (much to my own dismay), was Mandarin Oranges. Bryan and Sarah love them, and I cannot stand them. But, to be a good wife and mom, I buy them. Sarah kept asking me why I don't like them, and all I could say was, "I just think they taste yucky." So Sarah told me to try one, and I simply replied, "Nope." Then she went in for the kill and added, "But Mommy, you always make me try different foods!" What was I supposed to say to that?! She trapped me! I had no other choice but to eat one because I didn't want to get caught in the ol' do as I say, not as I do dilemma. Although the Mandarin Orange was still yucky to me, I was proud of myself! And I think Sarah was proud of me too! : )

Bedtime Stories

Tonight during reading time, Sarah and I read some of our favorites: Olivia, I Love My Daddy Because, and The Cow That Went Oink. After those, Sarah chose the last book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish to read to me! I loved it! It was so nice curling up beside her in our big chair in the den and listening as she read!! I wish Bryan had not been on call tonight because he really would have enjoyed it as well.

A New Pair of Shoes

Last week, we were delighted with our first fall days. The air was chilly and it was perfect. So after school, Sarah and I went to get her some new jeans and a new pair of shoes.

She adores her new shoes! At dance class she told her teacher, "I have a blister today because I got a new pair of shoes. They're like my mommy's, only mine are cuter!"

Poor thing, even though she's tall, her new jeans have to be rolled up. But then again, Bryan's scrubs are so long that he has to roll them up before leaving for the hospital each morning too, so maybe it's the new style!

Boy Scouts is not for Sarah

Each week at dance class, the girls are supposed to walk across the balance beam, and each week Sarah gets on it, then gets nervous. Because she's scared of heights, (and apparently doesn't believe that her teacher won't let her fall!), Sarah never goes all the way across it. So after dance class this week as we were all at the table eating dinner, Bryan told her a story from his childhood that he thought would help her. He said, "When I was in Boy Scouts, I had to cross a 20 foot bridge that was only 6 inches wide and 15 feet in the air all while carrying a 50 pound backpack. I was a little scared at first, but I did it. So don't be scared about the balance beam next week at dance class, because you can do it!" Sarah said, "Whoa! I never want to be in Boy Scouts!" I don't think that was the moral of the story....

More Spelling

Tonight at dinner, Bryan and I were telling Sarah how proud we were of her on her spelling test. I then told her that she was obviously a great speller like Daddy who was a Spelling Bee Champ two years in a row growing up. Sarah asked, "Really? Then can you spell: pneumatic?" Needless to say, we immediately burst into laughter! Bryan then asked her, "Can you spell pneumatic?!" Sarah responded with, "I'm only in the first grade, Daddy!" Papa Bear proceeded to spell the word she requested, only to then be asked to spell: politics, pelican, and anesthesiologist.

First Spelling Test!

Today was Sarah's first spelling test! Even though she already knew all 10 words and thought they were "so easy," we still practiced them all week. Sarah received a 110 on her test! She scored 10 extra points for spelling the bonus word correctly and using it in a sentence. The word was "come" and Sarah wrote: "I like to come to school." We are so proud of her!

It looks like she's following in Daddy's footsteps--he was Spelling Bee Champ in 6th and 7th grade! (He still brags about it!)

Celebrate Freedom!

This week was Celebrate Freedom week at Sarah's school. Bryan and I thought it was such a great idea! Each day, there was a different theme in which the kids were asked to wear something that went along with it.

Monday: Stars and Stripes Day

Today was "Hats off to our Country" Day, but I forgot to take a picture of her this morning.

Papa Bear's Sick

Bryan's unfortunately been sick since Sunday. He doesn't think it's the flu though, so hopefully since he's a doctor, he's right! I've been pumping him with hot tea and medicine all week. Yesterday morning, after hitting snooze a couple of times, he got out of bed to get his clothes ready and just stood at the dresser coughing and moaning. I got up, put his boxers back in the drawer, and told him to go call the hospital to let them know he was not coming in. After that, I made him get back in bed while I helped Sarah get ready for school. The rest of the day, I just took care of him. It was nice spending the day with Bryan, but I obviously would have preferred that he wasn't sick! Today in "writing center" at school, Sarah made Daddy a get well card. She wrote: "I howp you fell bedr soon. Sarah + Daddy=love" If that card doesn't help him get better, I don't know what will! 

Two Dates with my Guys!

Today, I had the pleasure of going on two dates. Bryan has been in a training class at the hospital the past two days, so he called me yesterday to come and have lunch with him during his break. And today, we did the same thing! It was lovely!

Bryan is on call tonight, so I took Sarah to Pei Wei for a dinner date. It too was lovely! It was so nice to be able to talk to her about school and review spelling words while slurping up noodles!

An Oldie, but a Goodie!

This afternoon, we decided it would be fun to bring out some of Sarah's old toys. She loved playing with all of her Little People when she was a baby and a toddler, and the three of us had a blast playing with them again today while watching the Cowboys game!

Our favorite (Bryan and me) is still Noah's Ark, while Sarah loves all of them equally!

Snuggle goes to School

Sarah's teacher uses a point system for the class to work together to obtain special rewards. Last week, they got to play on the big playground, (which Sarah says is "so much better than the small one!"). This week, they earned enough points to bring a stuffed animal to school. Sarah was just thrilled and could not wait for Snuggle to spend the day with her at school! They were going to read, go to centers, and learn together all day! I'm looking forward to picking Sarah up and hearing about how much fun they both had today!

School Update

It has been 2 and a half weeks since Sarah started school, and she is just loving it! Thus far, they have learned about money, being a good citizen, and making maps. They have practiced math, reading, and complimenting others. She really enjoys going to PE and music class also. This week, Sarah is the line leader, and she is just beside herself with excitement! She told me this morning before school that she didn't sleep well last night because she couldn't wait to get to school to lead her class through the hallways again! Bryan and I are so proud of her, and we hope that she always loves school!
